You read that X, the app that used to be Twitter, replaced Bookmarks with a new History tab. You open the menu, and it still says Bookmarks. Or a friend’s iPhone has History and yours does not. Or History is there and your Likes tab has vanished from your profile.
None of these is a bug, and none of them means your saves are gone. They are what a partial rollout looks like from the outside. X launched History on the iPhone app in May 2026 and has not said a word about anywhere else.
This post is for the “where is it” question. What each platform shows today, the checks worth doing on an iPhone, where your likes went, and what to do if History is there but empty.
- History launched on iOS only. X announced it for the iPhone app on May 12, 2026, and has announced nothing for Android or the web since.
- On Android and the web, the menu says Bookmarks for most people. That is the same list under the old name. Nothing is missing, and there is no setting to switch.
- On an iPhone without History, update the app, force-close it, and check which account you are signed into.
- Your Likes tab moved into History. It left profiles in early May, a week or so before History arrived. Your likes were not deleted.

Start with the device in your hand. The answer is different on each one.

“For most accounts” is doing honest work in that table. At least one guide describes History in the web sidebar, with no date and no source. We found none for Android. X has published no help page for History at all. So if yours shows History somewhere other than an iPhone, you are probably in a test group. If it does not, you are in the majority.
If your menu says Bookmarks, you have not lost anything. Where your bookmarks are on each device walks through every route to the same list, including the web search box, which the Android app still does not have.
Why History is not showing
X did not switch everyone over on one day, and it never said it would.
On May 12, 2026, Nikita Bier, who runs product at X, posted that a new History tab was rolling out on iOS. It would hold Bookmarks, Long Videos, Articles and Likes. The post named one platform. Android Headlines’ write-up two days later said the feature was only available on the iOS version of the app.
Four months on, that is still the last word from X. No second announcement, no Android date, and no help center article. X’s Bookmarks help page still tells you to open the Bookmarks tab from the menu, as if History did not exist.
Apps like X often switch a feature on for a slice of users first and widen it over weeks. That is called a staged rollout, and it means two people on the same phone and the same app version can see different menus. It is not a setting you can find. You are either in the group or you are not.
Not a bug
If the menu says Bookmarks on Android or the web, X has not moved you over. It changes when X switches your account, not when you change a setting.
How to tell
Sign into the same account on an iPhone, yours or a friend’s, with the X app up to date. If History shows there, your account is fine and the difference is the platform. If it does not show on the iPhone either, your account is outside the rollout for now. Either way, your saves are safe.
On an iPhone and still no History?
The iPhone is where History should be. If it is not there, work through these in order. Each takes under a minute.
- Update the app. Open the App Store, search for X, and install any update. A version from before May will never show History.
- Force-close and reopen it. Swipe the app away from the app switcher and open it fresh. The side menu is often loaded once and cached.
- Check the account. If you run more than one X account, the menu belongs to whichever one is active. Tap your profile picture and look at the handle at the top.
- Sign out and back in. A stale session can show an old menu, the same way it can show an empty bookmarks list.
If none of that brings it up, you are on the wrong side of the rollout on iOS too. It happens. Your bookmarks are exactly where they always were, in the Bookmarks item.
Getting to each list without History
History is four lists under one label. If you do not have the label, here is where each list lives today.
Bookmarks: The Bookmarks item in the side menu on Android, and the ribbon icon in the left sidebar on the web. Typing x.com/i/bookmarks into a browser goes straight there. It is the same list History shows, in the same newest-first order. If you pay for Premium and use bookmark folders, they are still reached from here.
Likes: If your profile still has a Likes tab, that is the list, and it has not changed. If the tab has gone and History has not arrived, X has not documented another place in the app to browse your likes. Each post you liked still shows the filled heart when you come across it.
Videos and Articles: These two lists only exist inside History. X has not given them a home anywhere else. Not having History does not mean X is not logging what you watch. Its privacy policy covers what you view either way. It means you cannot see the log.
Where your Likes tab went
This is the part that confused the most people, because it happened first.
In early May 2026, people started noticing the Likes tab was gone from profiles in the X app. PiunikaWeb reported that likes were being moved to a new area called History. About a week later, Bier’s post confirmed it. Likes became one of History’s four tabs.
So for a short window, likes were not visible anywhere in the app. That window is over on iOS. Open History and Likes is one of the four tabs. If you are on Android and your Likes tab has gone from your profile without History appearing in its place, you are caught in the same gap people on iOS hit in May.
Your likes were not deleted. They are also private, and have been since June 2024, which X’s engineering team announced at the time. Nobody else can browse them, though the author of a post can still see that you liked it. Is your X History private goes tab by tab through who can see what.
History is there, but Bookmarks is empty
Different problem, and a more worrying one, because this looks like data loss.
The rename moved the list. It did not touch it. When the Bookmarks tab inside History is empty, the cause is almost always one of the ordinary ones. A different account is active. A session has gone stale. The app has cached a list that failed to load. Sign out, sign back in, and then open x.com/i/bookmarks in a browser on the same account. If the web shows your saves, the phone will catch up. If you use bookmark folders, check you are not looking inside a folder rather than at the full list.
If the web is empty too, work through why X bookmarks vanish. It goes through the six causes in the order they turn out to be the answer, starting with the account check that fixes most of them.
When History does arrive
There is nothing to do when it lands. No migration, no prompt to accept, and nothing to back up first.
Your Bookmarks move across as the first tab, in the same order. Accounts published since the launch say bookmark folders are still reached through that tab. Likes become the tab beside them. The two new tabs, Videos and Articles, are the ones that will look strange. You never saved anything into them. X fills them from the long videos you watch and the articles you read on X. X has not said whether they start empty or come pre-filled with what you watched before the switch, so do not be surprised by either.

Why this keeps happening, and what to do about it
In one year, X has moved your likes off your profile, renamed Bookmarks on one platform and not the others, and added two tabs you never filled. It has not updated its own help page. None of that deleted anything. All of it made your saves harder to find. The Likes change came with no warning either. Profiles lost the tab in early May, and the post that showed where it went came about a week later.
That is the real lesson of a staggered rollout. You do not control where your saves live, what the menu is called, or when it changes. A list that only exists inside the app is a list you find on X’s terms.

The honest take
If History is not showing, you are not missing much. On Android and the web you still have the plain Bookmarks list, one tap away, without two self-filling tabs bolted on. That is arguably the better deal.
What is worth noticing is how it happened. A menu item millions of people use changed name on one platform, with one post from one executive, and no help page since. Four months on, X’s own help page still describes the old menu. That is not a company that will warn you before the next change.
Save to X if you like. Just do not let a menu you do not control be the only place your saves live.
