SpyFu does not have an official MCP server. On October 31, 2026, its website, developer docs and help center listed none, so getting SpyFu data into Claude, Cursor or Codex means calling the SpyFu API yourself or running a server someone else built.
The API is where the cost sits. It comes with the Pro + AI plan, $59 for the first month and $119 a month after that, and every call is billed by the rows it returns. We read SpyFu’s pricing page, API pricing guide and help center on October 31 to work out what that adds up to once an agent is making the calls.
- There is no official SpyFu MCP server. SpyFu’s own AI route is SpyFu GPT, which runs inside ChatGPT.
- The API starts on Pro + AI: $59 for the first month, then $119 a month, with $40 of API usage included. Team/Agency is $249 a month with $100 included. Basic has no API access.
- You pay per row returned. Each endpoint has a price per 1,000 rows, from $0.20 for competitor lists to $5.00 for top pages. Usage past the included credit goes on your card.
- Third-party routes exist. Apify actors scrape SpyFu’s public pages from about a cent a domain, and community wrappers call the official API with your own key.
- ContextBolt SEO covers the organic half (what a rival ranks for, who competes for your keywords, their backlinks) inside Claude, Cursor or Codex, free for 7 days and then $35 a month.
Is there an official SpyFu MCP server?
No. SpyFu’s home page and pricing page talk about ChatGPT and the API, and neither mentions MCP. Its developer docs keep an index written for AI agents, and that index lists REST endpoints and no MCP server. The help center returns no articles for “MCP” or “Claude”. The docs site even has an MCP address, and on October 31 it answered “This MCP server is not enabled.”
SpyFu’s route into an AI assistant is SpyFu GPT, a custom GPT that calls SpyFu’s API from inside ChatGPT. SpyFu’s help article on SpyFu GPT says there is no additional charge for it. The pricing page lists the ChatGPT integration as limited to 3 chats on Basic and unlimited on Pro + AI and Team/Agency.
A custom GPT stays inside ChatGPT. For Claude, Cursor or Codex you need the API or a third-party server, and each costs money in its own way.
Which SpyFu plans include API access
Pro + AI and Team/Agency do. Basic does not. These are the prices on SpyFu’s pricing page on October 31, 2026.
| Plan | Monthly | Billed annually | API credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 | $29/mo | API not included |
| Pro + AI | $59 first month, then $119 | $89/mo | $40 a month |
| Team/Agency | $249 | $187/mo | $100 a month |
So the cheapest way into the API is Pro + AI. Budget on the $119 renewal, or $89 a month if you pay for the year up front, because the $59 price covers one month.
The credit cannot be spent outside the API and does not roll over, according to SpyFu’s help article on API charges. Anything past it is charged to the card on your account. The same article lists a $5 monthly credit for Pro-level subscriptions, a plan the current pricing page does not show.
On a qualifying plan you generate an API key in your account, and the developer docs say you can be live in about two minutes.
How SpyFu API pricing works
SpyFu bills the API by the row. Every endpoint has a CPM, a price per 1,000 rows returned. Each calendar month, SpyFu multiplies every endpoint’s rows by its rate, adds them up, takes off your credit and charges the rest.
A row is one result, not one number. SpyFu’s own examples put it in figures. One domain for one month is 1 row, the same domain over 12 months is 12 rows, and 2,000 domains over 12 months is 24,000 rows.
These are the rates in SpyFu’s API pricing guide, with how far the $40 Pro + AI credit stretches at each.
| What you ask for | Per 1,000 rows | Rows $40 covers |
|---|---|---|
| Top SEO or PPC competitors of a domain | $0.20 | 200,000 |
| Metrics for a list of keywords | $0.20 | 200,000 |
| Organic keywords a domain ranks for | $0.50 | 80,000 |
| Domain stats by month | $0.50 | 80,000 |
| Keywords shared by competitors (Kombat) | $1.00 | 40,000 |
| PPC keywords a domain buys | $2.00 | 20,000 |
| Keywords where a rival outranks you | $2.00 | 20,000 |
| Related keywords | $2.50 | 16,000 |
| Ad history, with past ad copy | $3.00 | About 13,300 |
| Ranking history | $3.00 | About 13,300 |
| Top pages | $5.00 | 8,000 |
Requests start small. The keyword and ad history endpoints we checked return 5 rows unless you ask for more, and allow up to 10,000 in one request. An agent that asks for the maximum spends fast. One 10,000-row related-keywords request costs $25, most of a month’s credit. Neither the pricing guide nor the help article mentions a spending cap, so a loop that keeps asking keeps billing your card.
Rate limits are set per endpoint, from 2 requests a second up to 1,000 for competitor lists. Go over and the API returns a 429 error and asks you to wait a second.
What SpyFu data costs inside an agent
Take an ordinary question for an agent: “What does rival.com rank for, and who else competes with them?” Pulled at 100 rows each, that is 100 organic keyword rows at $0.50 per 1,000 and 100 competitor rows at $0.20, about 7 cents. The rows are cheap.
The plan is the floor. The API sits behind Pro + AI, so you pay $119 a month after the first month, or $89 a month billed annually, before the first row.
Then there is the server. With no official MCP, somebody has to wrap the API in a small MCP server that holds your key and turns each endpoint into a tool your agent can call. You write it, or you install a community project from GitHub that does it for Claude Code and Cursor. It runs on your machine with your key, so the plan and the per-row charges still apply.
Other SEO data sources price the same job in other shapes. Semrush runs an official MCP server that spends the API units on qualifying plans, 50,000 units refreshed on renewal, as our Semrush MCP pricing guide sets out. DataForSEO has no subscription at all, just a $50 minimum top-up into a balance that never expires, billed per request, as covered in DataForSEO MCP pricing. SpyFu mixes the two, with a subscription floor, per-row billing on top and no server.
Third-party SpyFu MCP servers and scrapers
Two kinds of third-party route turn up when you search for a SpyFu MCP server. None of them is a SpyFu product.
Scrapers on Apify: Several Apify actors scrape SpyFu’s public pages, so they need no SpyFu plan. Any of them can be loaded into Apify’s hosted MCP server, which you sign in to with your Apify account. Clearpath’s SpyFu Domain Intelligence Scraper charged $7.99 per 1,000 domains at its base rate on October 31, less on bigger Apify plans, plus a start fee from half a cent a run. Each domain comes back with monthly stats, competitors, keywords, ad history and backlinks. Canadesk’s Spyfu actor charges $0.015 a run for the first 100 keyword, competitor or ad results, then $0.15 per 1,000. Apify’s Free plan includes $5 a month to spend in its store, with no card.
Read each actor’s page before you rely on it. Clearpath’s says its keyword and backlink lists are “source-limited samples”, ad text that SpyFu keeps behind a login comes back empty, and you are responsible for complying with SpyFu’s terms of service.
Wrappers that use your own key: These call the official API, so you still need Pro + AI or Team/Agency. The GitHub project above is one. On Apify, the Competitor Keyword Research API actor adds its own charge of $5 per 1,000 keyword rows and $8 per 1,000 ad rows, while SpyFu bills its per-row price to your account separately. For organic keyword rows, that is ten times SpyFu’s own $0.50 rate.
Where ContextBolt SEO overlaps with SpyFu
ContextBolt SEO is ours, so weigh the bias. It is a hosted SEO MCP server. You paste one URL into Claude, Cursor or Codex, or into ChatGPT where your plan allows custom connectors, sign in with your email and ask. It is free for 7 days with 100 credits, then $35 a month for 1,000 credits. The trial needs a card, and the estimates come from DataForSEO.
The overlap with SpyFu is the organic half of competitor research. Each of these costs 1 credit:
- What a domain already ranks for
- A domain’s traffic, keyword count and authority
- The domains chasing your keywords
- Related keywords with volume, difficulty and intent
- Who ranks in Google’s top 10 for a keyword
Backlink tools, including the links your rivals have and you don’t, cost 3 credits each. Site audits cost 1 credit a page, and your own Search Console data costs nothing. The agent is where you ask, and every lookup saves automatically to your SEO Dashboard, a private page your research fills in as you go. To see a full session, keyword research with Claude runs the whole workflow on live data, from seed terms to a ranked content plan.
Four routes for getting competitor data into an AI assistant, side by side.
| Route | To start | What your agent gets |
|---|---|---|
| ContextBolt SEO | Free for 7 days, then $35/mo | Organic research, backlinks, audits, AI visibility, Search Console |
| SpyFu API on Pro + AI | $59, then $119/mo | The full SpyFu API, through a server you wire up |
| Apify SpyFu scraper | Apify’s free $5/mo, then per domain | Samples from SpyFu’s public pages |
| SpyFu GPT | No extra charge, 3 chats on Basic | SpyFu data in ChatGPT |
Which route to pick
- Organic competitor and keyword research in Claude, Cursor or Codex: ContextBolt SEO, because it is one URL with nothing to wire, free for 7 days and then $35 a month.
- A rival’s Google Ads history and old ad copy: SpyFu is built for that, with ads captured since 2007, and ContextBolt SEO does not carry ad history. Budget $119 a month for Pro + AI, plus rows past the $40 credit and the time to wire up a server.
- A few SpyFu numbers for a handful of domains: an Apify scraper, if samples are enough and you have read SpyFu’s terms.
- You already pay for SpyFu and work in ChatGPT: SpyFu GPT, at no extra charge.
If your work is organic, test it on your own domain first. Run the free site check on it, with no account, and see which searches you already show up for.
