You open Reddit to find a thread you saved. A fix for a car noise, a long post about a visa, a comment with the exact command you needed. And the Saved list is not where it used to be, or it is there and the post is not in it.
The good news first. Usually nothing was deleted. What happens is duller. The list moved inside the app. Or the oldest saves slid past a limit Reddit does not advertise. Or the person who wrote the post deleted it.
This guide covers where Saved lives on each device today, the three checks that fix most “missing” lists, and the part nobody likes hearing. Some of what you saved is gone for good, and Reddit cannot give it back.
- On the Reddit app, Saved moved into a menu. Tap your avatar, then the three-line menu at the top right, then Saved. Reddit updated its help pages for this in February 2026.
- On a computer, go straight to the list. Open reddit.com/user/yourname/saved, with your own username in place of yourname.
- Old saves fall off the end. The list only reaches back about 1,000 items, posts and comments together, so your oldest saves drop out as new ones arrive.
- Reddit saves a link, not a copy. If the author deletes the post, the text is gone from Reddit for good. - The data request can list what the app stopped showing. It returns links only, not the posts themselves.
Where you are seeing this
Start with the device in your hand. Saved is in a different place on each one.
- iPhone or Android app: Tap your avatar to open your profile. Tap the menu with three lines near the top right. Tap Saved. Posts and comments you saved are both in there.
- Desktop web: Click your avatar, open your profile, and choose the Saved tab. Or type reddit.com/user/yourname/saved into the address bar.
- Old Reddit: old.reddit.com/user/yourname/saved still works, and it is the plainest view of the same list.
- Mobile browser: The same profile route as desktop. If the page keeps pushing you to the app, request the desktop site.
That app route is the change behind most of the recent “where did it go” threads. Reddit’s Android app FAQ was edited on February 26, 2026, and its page on saving posts the next day. Both now send you through the three-line menu on your profile, where the older instructions had Saved right in the menu that opens from your avatar.
Nothing about the list changed. The door to it did. If you find Saved behind the menu and everything is there, you are done.
Check these three things first
If Saved is where it should be and still looks empty or short, work through these in order. Each takes under a minute, and together they explain most sudden losses.
- Check the account. This is the big one. If you signed in with Google or Apple on a new phone, Reddit may have made you a fresh account with an empty list. Look at the username at the top of your profile and compare it with the one you use on your computer.
- Look at it on the web. Open reddit.com/user/yourname/saved in a browser. If your saves are there, the app is the problem, not your list. Update it, or sign out and back in.
- Check Reddit is working. Reddit’s status page lists outages for the apps and the website separately. A list that fails to load during an outage looks exactly like a list that was wiped.
One more that catches people. The same menu that holds Save also holds Hide. A post you meant to save but hid is in a different list. On old Reddit it lives at old.reddit.com/user/yourname/hidden.
If all three checks pass and some saves are still missing, you are dealing with one of the two causes below. Both are how Reddit works, not faults it will fix.
Cause one: the list only reaches back about 1,000
Reddit’s help pages do not mention a limit on saving. You can keep tapping Save and nothing warns you. But the list Reddit hands back stops at roughly 1,000 items. That ceiling is the listing limit, the cap Reddit puts on every long scrolling list it serves, from your post history to a subreddit’s new queue. Your saves are one of those lists.
So when you save item 1,001, the list does not grow. It slides. The newest save goes on top and the oldest one drops off the bottom. Do that for a few years and the posts you saved first are no longer in the list at all.
This is why the loss feels sudden. You do not notice a list sliding a little at a time. You notice the day you go looking for something from 2022 and the scroll ends in 2024. Posts and comments count against the same 1,000, so saving a lot of comments pushes old posts out faster.
We cover the mechanics, and why Reddit Premium does not lift it, in the guide to the Reddit saved posts limit. The short version for this page is that those saves are not deleted on Reddit’s side. They are out of reach from the app. One route can still list them, which we get to below.
Cause two: the post itself was deleted
A save on Reddit is a pointer. It says “this user saved this post”. It is not a copy of the post.
So when the author deletes the post, your save points at nothing. The entry can still sit in your list, but the text now reads as deleted or removed. The same happens when a moderator removes a post, when the author’s account is suspended, or when a whole subreddit is banned or goes private. The pointer survives. What it pointed at does not.
Here is how that looks in practice. You saved a long post in reddit.com/r/personalfinance in 2023. The author deleted it last year. Your save still links to the thread, but the post you wanted now shows as deleted, and nothing in your account holds the words.
This is the cause people fight hardest, because it looks like Reddit took something of theirs. It did not, in a strict sense. You never had a copy. You had a bookmark to someone else’s post, and they took it down.
Are saved comments gone too?
Probably not. Reddit’s app FAQs answer “Can I view my saved posts/comments” with the same menu route, and say both land on the same Saved screen. Comments did not get a separate home.
What trips people up is that the screen can lead with posts. Before you decide your comments are gone, look for a way to switch the view to comments at the top of the list, and check old.reddit.com/user/yourname/saved, which mixes both in one feed.
If comments are genuinely missing, the same two causes apply. A saved comment counts toward the same roughly 1,000 limit as a saved post. And a comment its author deleted leaves the same empty pointer. Comments are often the thing people saved for, the one reply with the fix in it, which is why losing them stings more.
What you can still get back
For saves that slid past the 1,000 limit, there is one official route. Reddit’s data request.
Go to reddit.com/settings/data-request on a computer, sign in to the right account, and submit. Reddit says it can take up to 30 days to prepare. The download link arrives in your Reddit inbox, or sometimes by email.
Inside the ZIP are two files that matter here, saved_posts.csv and saved_comments.csv. Because they come from Reddit’s records rather than the list you scroll, they can include saves the app stopped showing long ago. That is the good news.
The catch is what each row holds. An ID and a link. No title, no text. So the export helps with cause one and does nothing for cause two. A link to a deleted post is still a link to a deleted post.

What Reddit will not give back
Be clear-eyed about this part, because it saves you a week of support tickets.
- The text of a deleted post or comment. Reddit never stored a copy for you. There is no undo.
- The date you saved something. The export lists what you saved, not when.
- A search over your saves. The Saved list has no search box.
- A warning before the list slides. No counter, no email, nothing.
The missing search is the one you can work around today, and searching Reddit saves covers every method we have tested. None of the rest is a bug, and filing it in r/bugs will not change it. The Saved list works like a “come back to this soon” button, not an archive.
How to stop it happening again
The fix for both causes is the same. Keep your own copy of each save, made at the moment you save it, while the post still exists and still sits at the top of the list.

The honest take
Most “my saved posts disappeared” moments are a menu that moved or an account mix-up. Those take a minute to fix and nothing is lost.
The rest are harder to hear. Your oldest saves were always going to slide off, because the list stops at about 1,000. And a post you saved was always someone else’s to delete. Reddit is not hiding the deleted ones. It never held a copy for you.
So treat the Saved button as a note to yourself, not a vault. If a thread matters enough to save, it matters enough to keep a copy you control. ContextBolt does that for every save, from the day you install it.
