Sigma Computing offers an official hosted MCP server that lets an agent search and query your Sigma data models and workbooks in plain language. For BI and analytics teams, it means asking questions of your governed data without building the query by hand.
Why use it
Analysts spend a lot of time translating a question into the right workbook and filter. This server lets Claude or Cursor do that first pass, finding the relevant model, exploring it, and returning an answer grounded in your actual Sigma data rather than a guess.
What it actually does
Once connected, the agent can search your data models and workbooks, explore their structure, and run natural-language queries against them. Useful prompts:
- ‘Find the workbook that tracks monthly recurring revenue and summarize the latest trend.’
- ‘Which data models contain customer churn metrics?’
- ‘Query last quarter’s sales by region from the revenue model.‘
Gotchas
The server is org-specific. You get your connection URL from your Sigma profile, and it authenticates through OAuth, so setup assumes you already have a Sigma account with access to the relevant workbooks. Answers are only as good as the models you have permission to see, and it will not reach data outside Sigma. This is built for teams already standardized on Sigma, not a general BI tool.
