Your numbers live in a spreadsheet. The costs, the forecast, the list of who owes you what. It sits on your laptop as a .xlsx, and every time you want an agent’s help with it, you paste a CSV into a chat, read the answer, and copy the changes back by hand.
Import it once instead. The workbook becomes a Sheet board in your workspace, and Claude, Codex or any agent you connect reads and edits the same tabs you do.
Your file stays as it was. The board keeps its own copy, with nothing linked to Excel or Microsoft, and you can download it as a file whenever you like.
What comes over from Excel
Every tab comes in as a tab of its own, and each one keeps:
- values and formulas, so the totals still add up
- number formats, like currency, percents and dates
- bold, borders and column widths
- notes, links, dropdowns and checkboxes
- hidden rows and columns, and merged cells
A CSV comes in as one tab, with its separator worked out from the file. Drop several spreadsheets at once and they land on one new sheet board, tab beside tab.
The file is read in your browser. Only the sheet made from it is saved to your board. Fill colors and charts stay in the file, and your agent can chart any range once the numbers are in.
What your agents do with it
Your agent reads a tab as a table: the column letters, the row numbers, each value as you see it, then the formulas behind them. So “what do we spend a month?” gets its answer from the real cells, not from something you pasted.
Then it writes. Ask Codex to add the analytics tool at $19 a month and the row lands under Costs, the yearly figure written as a formula and the totals moving with it. Ask Claude for an Invoices tab with a paid checkbox for each client, or a chart of revenue beside the Revenue tab. An agent can also sort a range, freeze the header row, format a column as currency, or make a range a table so new rows take its formulas.
Each change glows in that agent’s color with its name, and lands in Board activity. If an agent writes over cells you had filled, Undo in Board activity puts back what they held.
A chart can travel, too. Put a range on a slide in a deck your agents write, and the slide changes when the sheet does.
Taking it back out
Download, on the left of the sheet, gives you two files:
- This tab as CSV: the values as they show.
- The whole sheet as Excel (.xlsx): every tab with its values, formulas, number formats, widths, bold, borders, notes, links, dropdowns, hidden rows and merged cells.
Open the .xlsx in Excel and carry on there, or send it to your accountant as it is.
Bringing in a newer version
The board’s copy and your file don’t follow each other. When the file changes in Excel, import it again. On the sheet, Import a CSV or Excel file can add the file’s tabs beside the ones you have, or Replace the open tab with the file’s first tab. Undo puts a replaced tab back.
Coming from Google Sheets? Download the file first, as .xlsx, then import it the same way. The docs cover every part of a Sheet board, formulas and limits included.
