Pick the sessions folder inside .codex

Codex saves your limits in its session files after each reply. This page finds the newest reading, here in your tab.

or drop it on this window

Your browser may ask to “upload” the folder. That is its word for letting this page read it. Nothing is sent.

How Codex usage limits work

Codex counts against your ChatGPT plan’s allowance in windows. The checker draws a ring for each window Codex reports, labeled by its length.

5 hours Current session

On Plus, Codex has a five-hour window. OpenAI says Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit, so on Pro this ring is not there.

7 days This week

The weekly limit is the one that ends a week early. The checker shows the day and time it resets, so you can see how long a low ring has to last.

  • One allowance: OpenAI says Codex shares it with ChatGPT Work, ChatGPT for Excel and Workspace Agents where your plan has them. Ordinary ChatGPT chat is not on that list.
  • Local and cloud together: OpenAI says both use the same allowance, and the reading here catches up the next time Codex runs on your computer. A model with limits of its own shows as small rings.

Keep these rings live on Context Board

This page reads your folder once. Context Board keeps the same rings on screen for Codex and Claude Code, beside the sessions that are waiting for you.

How do I check my Codex usage?

In the Codex CLI, type /status during a session to see your remaining limits. On the web, open chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage for your limits, reset times and credit balance. This checker shows the same limits from the readings Codex saves in your sessions folder, with nothing to install.

My browser asked to upload the folder. Is anything sent?

No. “Upload” is the browser's word for letting a page read a folder you chose. The checker opens your newest session files in your tab, uses the limits line Codex writes after each reply, and ignores the rest, your prompts and code included. Nothing is uploaded or stored, and like every page on this site this one loads fonts and analytics that carry nothing from your files. Once the page has loaded, the checker works with your internet off. Rather not pick the whole folder? Pick one session file instead, the newest one in today's folder.

Where is the Codex sessions folder?

At ~/.codex/sessions on macOS and Linux, and C:\Users\you\.codex\sessions on Windows. Codex keeps a folder for each day inside it, and each session is a rollout file. The dot in .codex hides it. In a Mac folder picker, Cmd+Shift+. shows hidden folders, and on Linux, Ctrl+H does. If you set CODEX_HOME, the sessions folder is inside that instead.

Why is there only one ring?

The checker draws the windows Codex reports for your plan, and labels each by its length. On Plus that is a five-hour window and a week. OpenAI says Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit, so on Pro the week is the ring to watch.

Why is my reading hours old?

Codex saves a reading after each reply, so the newest one is from the last time you used it on this computer. A window that has reset since then shows as renewed. Send Codex one message, then pick the folder again for a fresh reading.

Does platform.openai.com/usage show the same thing?

No. That is the API usage dashboard, for spend on API keys. When you sign in to Codex with ChatGPT, your work draws on your plan instead, and that is what this checker and chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage show. How to check Codex usage has every place to look.
