Ask Claude about your
Obsidian vault.
Context Board opens the vault on your computer in a browser tab, and its chat runs on the Claude Code or Codex you already pay for. Ask about the note in front of you or the whole vault, and watch each edit land in the note. Your files stay where they are.

What did I decide about pricing? Three notes say $12 a month, and the call with Dana asked about yearly. I added a Pricing decision note that links all four.

Why Claude and Obsidian take some wiring
Claude can't see your Obsidian vault on its own. The usual way in is an MCP server: install a plugin or a package, write a config for each app, and keep Obsidian open on the plugin route. Claude Code can work in the vault folder from a terminal, but you read what it changed in another window. And away from that computer, the vault is out of reach.
How to use Claude with your vault
- Link your computer In Connect, copy the one line for the computer your vault is on and run it once. It installs the runner, a small program that starts with the computer, and gives your Claude Code and Codex the board.
- Add the vault as a folder In Connect, under Your AI, add the vault as a project folder, read only or read and write. Then make a Files board and pick that folder.
- Ask Claude Open a note and press Ctrl J (⌘ J on a Mac) for the chat. Ask about this note or the whole vault. In a read and write folder, each edit shows in the note as it lands.
The chat runs on your own Claude Code or Codex, so there's no API key and no extra bill. How linking your computer works

Frequently asked questions
Something else on your mind? Get in touch.
Can Claude read my Obsidian vault?
Not on its own. It needs a way in: an MCP server pointed at the vault, Claude Code started in the vault folder, or a tool that does it for you. On Context Board, a Files board opens the vault and the board's chat reads it through your own Claude Code or Codex. For the MCP route, see our Obsidian MCP guide.
Do I need an MCP server or an Obsidian plugin?
No. The runner reads the folders you chose on your computer, and the chat uses Claude Code's or Codex's own tools there. Obsidian doesn't need to be open, and nothing is installed in the vault. The same Files board lets you read and edit the vault in a browser yourself.
Does it work with Codex too?
Yes. With your computer linked, the chat runs on Claude Code or on Codex, and you can switch between them. Your chats with both sit in one list, and a chat carries on where it left off when you open it again.
Can it change my notes?
Only in a folder you chose as read and write. In a read-only folder it reads and changes nothing. Each file it changes or deletes is kept as it was, on your computer, for 30 days.
Can I ask from my phone?
Yes, in the phone's browser, with no app. The chat and your notes still run on your computer, so it needs to be on.
Is my vault uploaded?
The board keeps no copy of your files. The runner sends a note to your browser tab when you open it. Your chats are kept on your board, so what a reply says about a note stays with that chat. A Files board is never shared by link.
What does it cost?
Context Board is free for 3 days, then $12 a month, with every widget included. Files boards, the chat and every other board type are in the same plan, and the chat runs on your own Claude Code or Codex. Context Board vs Obsidian sets it beside Obsidian's own plans.
