SE Ranking MCP Pricing: What It Actually Costs

SE Ranking ships one of the better SEO MCP servers, and the pricing question people ask about it has the wrong shape. Everyone wants to know what the MCP server costs. The MCP server costs nothing.

What costs money is the credits it spends, and that is a different question with a much less comfortable answer. Two things move at once. Your plan sets how many credits you get, and the specific tool you call sets how fast they disappear. Miss the second half and your first month lands nothing like you budgeted.

I went through SE Ranking’s own MCP page, its MCP API documentation and its credit system docs to work out where the money actually goes.

Quick answer
  • No separate MCP fee. SE Ranking includes MCP access in every subscription.
  • It runs on your plan’s API credits. That is the meter, and it is the whole story.
  • Burn rates vary wildly by tool. A backlink summary is 100 credits per domain. Checking your subscription is free.
  • The trial is 100,000 credits, which sounds enormous and is about 1,000 backlink summaries.
  • A price you can work out before you run it. ContextBolt SEO publishes every tool’s cost up front, and the few that scale do it on what you asked for rather than on how much data turns out to exist. $35 a month, free for 7 days.

What SE Ranking MCP actually costs

SE Ranking’s own MCP page is unusually direct about this, and it is worth quoting the shape of it rather than paraphrasing.

MCP access is included in every SE Ranking subscription. There is no MCP product to buy, no add-on to enable at checkout, and no separate line on your invoice. The server authenticates against your existing account and runs on the API credits that account already has.

That is genuinely good news, and it is better than the Semrush arrangement, where some plans include API units and others expect you to buy a package separately. With SE Ranking, if you are paying for the platform at all, the MCP server is available to you.

The catch is that “included” and “free to use” are not the same sentence.

The credit math nobody shows you

Here is the part that decides your bill, and it is buried in the API documentation rather than on the pricing page.

Credits are not charged per call. They are charged either per record returned or as a flat rate per request, depending on the endpoint. SE Ranking’s credit system documentation gives three examples that span the entire range.

RequestCredit cost
Backlink summary100 credits per domain record
Backlink export1 credit per backlink returned
Account subscription check0 credits

Read those three rows again, because they are not variations on a theme. They are three completely different pricing models sitting behind one connection.

The backlink export row is the one that should make you careful. One credit per backlink returned means the cost of a single request is set by how many links the domain has, which is a number you do not know before you ask. Run an export against a site with 40,000 backlinks and you have spent 40,000 credits on one question.

Now put the trial next to it. SE Ranking gives you 100,000 credits to evaluate the server. That sounds like a lot. It is about 1,000 backlink summaries, or a couple of exports against reasonably linked domains. An agent doing competitor research on autopilot can get through it in an afternoon, and it will not warn you first.

This is the honest problem with metered SEO data inside an agent. You are not the one deciding how many calls happen. The model is. And the model has no idea what a credit costs you.

Which model you run changes that number more than people expect. A reasoning model that plans a research job end to end will make far more tool calls than one answering a single question, which is worth reading alongside what GPT-6 Astra can actually do for SEO before you point either at a metered server.

Which plan you need

Any paid one. That is the useful answer, and it is a real advantage over the competition.

You do need API access enabled on the account, which is a setting rather than a purchase, and the server authenticates with OAuth 2.1 using dynamic client registration. In practice that means you log in through the browser once and your agent holds the connection. There is also a manual API key route for sub-accounts and programmatic use.

On the published plan prices, one warning. SE Ranking prices in local currency based on where you are browsing from. Requesting the pricing page from a European address returns euros, with the currency fixed server-side, and no URL parameter switches it. So a figure quoted in a comparison post written somewhere else is not necessarily the figure you will be charged. Open their pricing page yourself and read the number your own browser returns.

What does not change by region is the structure. You pick a plan, the plan carries a credit allowance, and the MCP server eats that allowance at the rates above.

The standalone route

If you do not want a platform subscription at all, SE Ranking sells API access on its own, and the MCP server runs on those credits the same way.

Worth knowing before you go looking for a cheap way in. SE Ranking’s documentation states that standalone access starts at 24 million credits annually. That is a commitment, not a top-up. It is priced for someone building a product on their data rather than for a solo SEO who wants live numbers in Claude twice a week.

There is also a smaller pay-as-you-go option sold in credit packs. As with the plans, the figure it is quoted at depends on your region, so read it from their API pricing page rather than from mine.

One small thing I noticed while reading. SE Ranking’s MCP marketing page says the server exposes 180 or more tools, while its API documentation for the same server says 160 or more. Neither number changes what you would pay. It is just a reminder that the vendor’s own pages disagree, and that the tool count is a marketing figure rather than a specification.

How this compares to a flat price

Metered credits make sense when you are pulling data at scale and want to pay for exactly what you use. They make much less sense when an AI agent is the thing deciding how many calls to make.

That is the reason ContextBolt SEO is priced the other way round, though not in the way you might assume. Some of our tools scale too. A site audit costs one credit per page, and an AI visibility report costs a base rate plus eight credits per competitor.

The difference is what the multiplier attaches to. A site audit scales on the number of pages you asked it to check, and it stops at 50 in a run. A backlink export scales on however many links that domain happens to have, which is a number nobody knows before the request goes out. You can work the first one out in advance. You cannot work the second one out at all.

Most research calls are flat regardless. Keyword and SERP work is 1 credit, the backlink tools are 3, and the subscription is $35 a month with 1,000 credits included. Our per-tool prices are on the ContextBolt SEO page rather than in an API reference, which is the part that matters when an agent is the one deciding how many calls to make.

Two smaller differences follow from the same design. If a lookup comes back empty, it costs you nothing, because charging for a number the product did not return is indefensible. And there is no dashboard to learn, because the answers arrive in the agent you were already working in.

It is a genuine trade. SE Ranking’s database is deeper than ours and their platform does things we do not do. If you already pay for SE Ranking, their MCP server is included and you should absolutely use it. This is about which pricing model survives contact with an agent, not about which company has more data.

Should you use SE Ranking MCP?

If you already have an SE Ranking subscription, yes, without hesitation. You are paying for it either way and the server is well built.

If you are considering a subscription specifically to get the MCP server, do the credit arithmetic first. It is the same exercise that decides whether Ahrefs MCP is worth a plan. Work out which two or three tools you would actually call, look up what each one costs per record, and multiply by how often an agent would realistically run them in a week. That number, not the plan price, is what decides whether this works for you.

And if the answer is that you want live SEO data in your agent without running a credit budget in your head, that is exactly the job a flat-priced server does better.

Prices and credit costs in this post were read from SE Ranking’s own MCP page, API documentation and credit system documentation on September 7, 2026. Currency shown on their pricing page varies by region.

SE Ranking MCP Pricing: FAQs

How much does SE Ranking MCP cost?
There is no separate charge for the MCP server. SE Ranking includes MCP access in every subscription, and every request spends the API credits attached to your plan. So the real cost is whatever plan you are on, plus any extra credits you buy when the included allowance runs out.
Is there a free SE Ranking MCP tier?
There is a free trial rather than a free tier. SE Ranking gives you 100,000 credits to run real queries against the MCP server. That is a genuine evaluation, but it is finite, and heavy tools like backlink summaries spend it faster than you would expect.
Can I use SE Ranking MCP without a subscription?
Yes. SE Ranking sells pay-as-you-go API access separately from its platform seats, and the MCP server runs on those credits. Its own documentation notes that standalone access starts at 24 million credits annually, so the entry point is a commitment rather than a small top-up.
How many credits does an SE Ranking MCP call use?
It depends entirely on the endpoint. SE Ranking charges either per record returned or a flat rate per request. A backlink summary is 100 credits per domain record, a backlink export is 1 credit per backlink returned, and checking your own subscription is free.
Why is SE Ranking MCP pricing hard to pin down?
Because two variables move at once. The plan price sets your credit allowance, and the endpoint you call sets the burn rate. SE Ranking also prices in local currency by region, so the figure you see depends on where you are browsing from.
