Using it

Which browsers does it work in?

ContextBolt is a Chrome extension, so it works in Chrome and other Chromium browsers like Edge, Brave and Arc. Install it from the Chrome Web Store.

Which platforms can it capture from?

X / Twitter, Reddit and LinkedIn. X saves are captured when you open your bookmarks page, and Reddit saves sync when you open Reddit. LinkedIn gets a one-click save button in the feed, and older LinkedIn saves come in through its Saved Items CSV. Any web page or online PDF saves with one click.

Can I read my saves inside ContextBolt?

Yes. Click any save in your dashboard and it opens in ContextBolt Reader, with one button to open the original. Articles show as clean text, PDFs show their text, and X posts show their photos. It is on by default on Basic and Pro, and you can turn it off in Settings. See ContextBolt Reader.

What happens to a save if the page is deleted?

Its text stays readable in ContextBolt Reader, because the text is stored in your browser when you save. Images in articles are not saved, and photos on posts load from the platform, so those can disappear.

Does it save PDFs?

Yes, if it is on the web. Open the PDF’s link in Chrome, click the ContextBolt icon and press Save this page. Its text is kept for search and for ContextBolt Reader. A scanned PDF has no text to keep, so it saves as its title and link, and so does a file over 25 MB. A PDF opened from a file on your computer cannot be saved.

Do I have to tag or sort anything myself?

No. Every save is tagged by AI and grouped into topic clusters automatically. There are no folders to build and no upkeep.

Do I need an AI agent to use it?

No. Capture, AI tagging and search all work in the extension on their own. Extension search is a local ranked index: it runs on your device, returns instantly and tolerates typos. The AI agent connection is a Pro extra for people who want their library inside Claude, Cursor or Codex.

Privacy and data

Where do my bookmarks live?

On your machine. Search runs locally in your browser, and we keep no copy of your bookmarks on our servers on the free tier. Pro syncs one automatically.

What gets sent to your servers?

The text of a save, so the AI can tag it and embed it for search. That text goes on to our AI providers. Also an account for the extension and a license check it makes whenever its background worker starts, which records your IP. The account starts anonymously; signing in adds your verified email. Your library itself stays on your machine on the free tier. Pro syncs a copy to our servers, automatically rather than by a switch, and that copy is readable by us. Can I get my data out?

On Pro, any time. Export your whole collection to CSV, JSON or Excel, for backup or to move it elsewhere. On Basic the export button is locked and your library stays in your browser.

Plans and limits

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Basic plan is free and holds up to 150 bookmarks with full capture, AI tagging, topic clustering, instant local search and ContextBolt Reader. See pricing for current details.

What does Pro add?

Unlimited bookmarks, cloud sync across devices, and the MCP endpoint that connects your library to your AI agent.

Do I need Pro to search?

No. Search inside the extension is on the free plan. It is a local ranked index that runs on your device, returns instantly and tolerates typos. Semantic search, which matches on meaning rather than words, runs server-side through the Pro MCP endpoint. Pro is about scale, sync and the agent connection.

Troubleshooting

My AI agent cannot see my bookmarks

Work through these in order.

• Confirm the extension is signed into your Pro account and its cloud sync has finished.
• For OAuth, use https://api.contextbolt.app/mcp, sign in with the same account email, enter the email code, and approve the connection.
• If your client uses a personal URL instead, copy the full private URL from Settings under MCP Integration. Newer versions keep it under Older clients. Existing personal URLs still work.
• Reconnect or start a fresh client session if the tools have not appeared. An ended Pro plan stops MCP access, not your stored bookmarks.

I signed in but my account or bookmarks are missing

Open the extension’s dashboard, then Settings and Account. Sign in with the email attached to your existing library and finish the email-code step. You can use this route after onboarding or if you get logged out. Pro cloud sync restores the library attached to that account; signing into a different email does not move your old library there.

If Pro is not active yet, enter your license key once in the same Account section and save. Future sign-ins restore your current Pro status while the plan is active. Signing in does not renew an ended subscription. An OAuth connection does not delete or replace your saved bookmarks.

My sign-in code did not arrive or expired

Check spam first. Use the email your extension is signed in with, and if no code arrives there, try the email you paid with. The code goes to whichever address you entered. Codes expire after 10 minutes. Start a new sign-in for a new code, and use the code for the page or extension you opened. If you hit the request limit, wait before trying again. For agent access, the account must have active Pro.

A save did not show up

Give it a moment. Tagging runs on each new save, so a bookmark can take a few seconds to appear. For X, make sure you opened your bookmarks page so the extension could read it. For Reddit, open any www.reddit.com page, or press Sync Reddit in the popup.

Search is not finding something

Try a topic word rather than a whole remembered sentence. Extension search matches the AI tags, the author and the text of a save (the first 10,000 characters of a long page), and it ranks results rather than filtering them, so “morning routines” beats a long phrase. Typos are fine. If the item was never captured, it will not be searchable, so confirm it is in your library first.
